Preparing Your Motor Home For A Camping Trip

Preparing Your Motor Home For A Camping Trip

If you’ve recently bought a motor home and are looking forward to taking it on your first camping trip, you may not be fully sure how to prepare your motor home for the adventure. In this article we’ll look at key things you’ll need to do to get your motor home prepared.

Before taking your motor home on a camping trip, the first thing you need to do is make sure the motor home is functionally fully and properly. This means you’ll want to take it in to be serviced and inspected for problems. This step is particularly important if you bought your motor home used. If you just bought a new motor home however, then it should have been inspected and serviced before you drove it off the lot. Even new motor homes which have been parked for quite some time need this step however, so don’t skip this step particularly if you will be driving distances during your camping trip.

When you take a motor home camping, that usually means you plan to at least sleep inside the motor home. So another thing you’ll want to do in preparation is make sure you have clean sheets, blankets, and other bed clothes in the motor home. You can put these on the beds before leaving for your camping trip, or you can simply put clean bedding in a closet inside the motor home to use when you’re ready for them.

The kitchen area in your motor home will also need to be stocked for your camping trip. Make sure you have dishes to eat with - including silverware and drinking containers - pots and pans to cook with, and plenty of food to last for your entire camping trip. It’s usually a good idea to bring extra food and snacks on a camping trip with you, just in case you stay longer than planned or any unexpected delays come up.

The next step needed in preparing your motor home for a camping trip is to be sure you have your bathroom stocked with supplies. The longer you expect your camping trip to be, the more bathroom supplies you should make sure you have on hand. Be sure you have standard supplies such as soap and toilet paper, but don’t forget any special beauty items you can’t usually do without such as a favorite shampoo, deoderant and toothpaste.

Also don’t forget to pack plenty of wash clothes and towels. Camping - particularly in the heat of summer - tends to make everyone a bit gritty and sticky so having extra wash clothes is usually very important. If your motor home does not have a washer and dryer in it, and you won’t be camping at a campground with laundry facilities, you’ll probably want to bring enough towels to have a clean one each day of your camping trip.

While these are the primary things you’ll need to do to get your motor home ready for a camping trip, there may be several others to do as well. Finding or making a good camping checklist will help ensure you dont’ forget anything else that may be important for enjoying your trip.
