How To Know What Sized Motor Home To Buy

If you’ve been thinking about buying a motor home, you may be wondering which size you should buy. Once you start looking into buying one you quickly realize motor homes come in many different sizes. The different sizes also allow for different living configurations, floor plans and interior layout too, so sometimes you can have two motor homes seem completely different even when they’re the same size. This primary reason you need to determine the size of your motor home though, is so you’ll know whether it can meet all of your needs.

Figuring out which size of motor home you should buy involves considering several things: Your lifestlye and preferences, how many people will use the motor home, what you intend to use the motor home for, and how much or often you’ll plan to use it.

If for example, your lifestyle and preferences requires a fully equipped bathroom then you may have to buy a medium to large sized motor home since smaller ones aren’t always equipped with showers. If you’ll need access to laundry facilities regularly while travelling in your motor home, then these too are often only available in larger sized motor homes.

If you plan to only travel or go camping in your motor home a few times each year and your family is already grown, then a smaller motor home might be all that’s needed for you and your spouse.

Some people just want a comfortable place to sleep and a way to stay sheltered from bad weather when it arises, and if that’s the case for you then a small motor home will definitely work just fine.

If you’re planning to buy a motor home for family use though - whether you have children still living at home or you intend to take the grandkids on trips with you - then you’ll need a motor home which is large enough for everyone to have a place to sleep. Larger motor homes often have enough sleeping space for 6-8 people, and this tends to help when everyone needs to be indoors too because there are sitting spaces and room to move around.

How you plan to use your motor home is another important thing to consider though. If you want to live in your motor home full time, you may be the most comfortable with a larger one. Size is a factor if you just plan to go camping once in awhile too though, because large motor homes can sometimes be restricted from camping or travelling in certain areas. Some campgrounds can’t accomodate really large motor homes for example, and some primitive roads which lead to remote camping areas aren’t ideal to try and travel on with a large motor home either.

Smaller motor homes are excellent choices for just a few people to use ocassionally. If you plan to live in your motor home though, or if you have more than a few people travelling with you, then the best option may be a larger motor home. Take into consideration all the features and amenities, be honest with yourself about your personal needs and desires, then look around to find the best size which also fits into your budget.
