Camping Gear Needed for Tent Camping

If you’ve never taken a camping vacation or trip before, you probably aren’t sure what types of camping gear you should take with you. It’s ok not to know of course, since this will be the first time you’ve been camping. Everyone else had to have their own first time too.

Now, the camping gear you’ll need to take with you may vary slightly depending on whether you’re planning to take a long camping trip or just a short weekend getaway. Keep in mind that camping is a fun and exciting adventure, but having the proper camping gear with you is essential to having the most enjoyable trip. There’s no need to stress these details of course though, just create a camping checklist for yourself and you’ll be much less likely to forget anything important.

Since you’ll be camping in a tent, you want to be sure you have all of the pieces for your tent before you leave. A camping tent usually needs some sort of ground cloth to go underneath of it so the bottom of the tent isn’t easily torn. A tarp makes a great ground cloth. Your tent should also have stakes to help hold it securely in place, and it probably even has a rainfly which helps protect it from bad weather. Depending on the type of tent you have, it may have a carrying bags, various types of poles, and other attachments and accessories too. A two room tent for example, will have an extra piece of “cloth” which is used to divide the tent into two rooms once it’s set up.

In addition to your tent and its accessories, you’ll need other basic camping gear too. Sleeping bags are commonly used when sleeping in a tent, but you can also use regular blankets if you’re not camping in a cold or chilly area. Something to sleep with is usually considered essential camping gear though.

A way to cook is another type of camping gear you’ll need to make sure you have. If you’re planning to cook over an open fire for example, then be sure you pack a pan or skillet which won’t be ruined by the fire.

Some parts of the country do not allow open fires at certain times of the year though, because the danger of forest fires is too high. If you’re camping in areas which won’t allow open flame fires, then you’ll need to be sure you have a small propane camp stove to do your cooking on.

Be sure to bring enough food and water to last for your entire planned camping trip too.

Other basic camping gear includes some way to start a fire: A lighter or matches for example; A way to have light at night, such as with a camping lantern; Dishes and silverware to eat with; and one or more spare sets of cloths.

The longer you expect your trip to be of course, the more camping gear you’ll need to pack.

There are of course additional pieces of camping gear you may need depending upon the size of your camping party, where you’re going, how long you’ll be there, and what the weather is like in that area for a given time of year.
